I used to pride myself in being a 'details person'. I didn't often miss a beat, nor did I miss deadlines or confuse details. Somewhere along the way in the last few months, I've started slipping...and that troubles me.
Yes, I could talk about my pride issue...but that's not what this entry is about. :)
Instead I want to focus on stillness.
How does one learn to 'be still' in the midst of the chaos of life? What does stillness look like? Does it mean simply refraining from activities? Can I be still and yet participate in the normal routines of life?
I'm realizing that it means taking a step back from the craziness of life and allowing space for God to speak. I need (and want!) to be intentional about finding those times to stop and listen for His voice...to look for Him in the ordinary things of life, as well as the extraordinary. Richard Foster (in Celebration of Discipline), writes about times of rest and refreshment; stating that "they are times for inner quiet, for reorienting our lives like a compass needle. They are little moments that help us to be genuinely present where we are."
I need more of those times in my life, especially in seasons of busyness...
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10
Lord, help me to be still and know that You are God.
